Todi have ancient origins and a important story since the Roman conquest and that is well reconstructed in its many jewels of art.
Located in the heart of the provinces of Terni and Perugia, Todi is a treasure of style and knowledge, between medieval villages and cities of art, and the possibility of a cultural and spiritual itinerary in the land of San Francesco d'Assisi.
Surrounded by imposing medieval walls, Todi offers examples of art from various eras, from Etruscan to Romanesque, from Gothic to Renaissance and Baroque, and is dominated by the Temple of San Fortunato. Located at the top of the hill, with a bell tower that soars in the sky for its triumphal architecture, from which you can enjoy an enchanting view, is a demonstration of the rich artistic heritage of this region. In the crypt is preserved the funeral monument to Jacopone da Todi, also called the "jester of God" and predecessor of Dante. It is thanks to Jacopone that the fame of Todi is known and resonates over the centuries at home and around the world.
Also worth seeing is the Civic Museum, which houses a rich collection of coins, ceramics and objects from the Etruscan and Roman ages, the Temple of Santa Maria della Consolazione, designed by Bramante, whose renaissance architecture contrasts with that of the historic center of Todi, medieval. And again the Cathedral, entitled to SS. Maria Annunziata, with its enchanting central rose window, started in 1515 at the time of Bishop Basilio Moscardi and completed under his successor Aldighieri Biliotti.
The Fonti Scarnabecco, fulcrum of the city’s social life and used as a washbasin for the ancient housewives, the Teatro Comunale, whose oval-shaped stalls is a typical jewel of twentieth-century architecture, the Nicchioni consisting of four grand apses, surmounted by a cornice that presents a decoration in Doric style, the Roman Cisterns, still well preserved and open to the public located under the enchanting Piazza del Popolo, one of the most beautiful in Italy, where three important medieval buildings overlook: the Palazzo dei Priori, the People’s Palace and the People’s Captain’s Palace.
Near Piazza del Popolo you can admire a jewel of art unique in the world: the Painted House.
